Southern Alps

What's On in the Region

The Mount Cook/Mackenzie region offers a host of winter activities.

With a host of bars, cafes and night life around, the apres ski continues into the small hours. In Twizel, check out the Grappa Bar or the Top Hut Pub to enjoy an evening tipple with the locals, or Hunter's for the famous happy hour (or two!) where all the locals gather on a Friday night to chat and enjoy a refreshing beverage.

If the weather is crook, a day of ice-skating and a relax in the hot pools or a spa or massage can really stimulate the senses at the Alpine Springs and Spa at Lake Tekapo. With a couple of great displays at Mt Cook Village, both at the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Center (at the Hermitage) and at the DOC (Department of Conservation) Visitor's Center, you'll have plenty to fill in a weather day. Down the road, Omarama boasts hot pools to soak in, and world class gliding in spectacular surroundings (weather dependant - but windy days are not a problem there!)

We'll arrange transport on our "weather day" to meet with your needs in the region.

Allowing for a day of rough weather in a week need not be a chore. Either we'll find the best skiing in the Central South, taking in Wanaka, Mt Dobson or Round Hill, or book in a day at one of the activities mentioned above. Alternatively, you might like a day out to recover and sooth some weary muscles.
