The Waitaki River is our main port of call and here the fishing is senstational to say the least. It is theonly river where we fish with 6lb tippets minimum and we still get broken off. The fish are fat, fast and fufll of life and it is a real thrill to be amongst this massive river's braids for a day you will never forget. There's not too many rivers where a 1kg fish can take you through to the backing - upstream!
Our float fishing trips are an easy day trip, on grade one to two water. This means that there are no major rapids, with only small waves and well defined eddies and channels. You'll be kitted with lifejackets and other safety equipment.
You should anticpate staying dry throughout your trip (unless of course it rains or you are wet-wading!) as our main aim is to have you working over fish, not swimming in the river. We carry a full range of safety equipment and our trips are fully audited each season by Maritime Safety New Zealand, as is the requirement for all rafting operators and guides.
Once all your safety gear has been fitted and checked, we will set out downstream on our float trip. Whilst we float up to only 10km on each trip, the day is a full day, where you might fish from both the raft or on shore, stopping where the fishing is at it's best. Weather conditions permitting, we will be on the water until around 1 hour from sundown, when we will make our landfall and pack up the gear, returning you to your accommodation that evening.
Whilst warm, sunny days are anticipated, there is the possiblity that the weather may change during the day. In the event of adverse weather, we are usually no more than an hour or so from our appointed take-out and we may cut the trip short for safety and comfort reasons.
Adventure tourism activites are widespread in New Zealand and industry standards require that operators meet minimum operational standards and requirements to operate safely. This is to ensure that appropriate steps are taken to minimise potential accidents and injuries to participants. Nevertheless...
